Tennant's Winner Propels SHU Into SNET Title Game

STORRS, CT -- Sacred Heart's Lloyd Tennant scored the game-winning goal with less than four minutes remaining to lift the Pioneers over the Findlay Oilers, 3-1, in game one of the 1999 SNET UConn Hockey Classic Wednesday afternoon at the Connecticut Ice Arena.

Alexis Jutras-Binet made 24 saves to backstop the Pioneers, who were outshot 25-23 on the game. Jim Brunner stopped 22 shots for Findlay. With the win, Sacred Heart's record improves to 5-4-2 overall, while Findlay falls to 6-9-0.

Sacred Heart's Konn Hawkes tallied the first goal of the game, on an assist by Richard Naumann, early in the second period. With less than two minutes remaining in the period, Findlay's Shaun Endres evened the game. He was assisted by Russ Kelley and Darcy Parsons.

Tennant's goal came at the 16:42 mark of the third period off a rebound of a shot from Naumann. Eddy Bourget added an unassisted insurance goal into an empty net to secure the Pioneer victory.

Sacred Heart will face host Connecticut, a 3-0 shutout winner over Holy Cross, in the championship Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Findlay will face the Crusaders in the consolation round at 4:00 p.m.
