Garrett Brougham added two goals and Jeff Gallo a goal and two assists for the Cadets, who won for the seventh time in their last 10 outings to improve to 7-8-1 on the season. Dan Lupi made 49 saves for Assumption, which fell to 3-3-1.
Army scored four times on the power play, including its first three tallies of the game. Finnegan put the Cadets on the board 13:12 into the opening period and Brougham scored 5:46 later for a 2-0 Army lead.
Four minutes into the second period Brougham scored again with Army on a five-on-three advantage. Finnegan, Gallo and Mike Fairman also scored during a second-period onslaught that saw Army outshoot the Ice Dogs 18-0. Fairman's goal was his team-leading 10th of the season.
Jon Toftey, Brian Sarner and Finnegan scored in the third period, the last two coming 39 seconds apart. Sarner's goal, a power-play marker, was his third in as many games, while Toftey scored for the second straight outing.
Back on the ice for the first time in seven games due to a groin injury, Hamilton recorded his second career shutout. The blanking followed Corey Winer's 18-save performance in a 2-0 win at Fairfield on Tuesday and marked Army's first back-to-back shutouts since 1995-96. The Cadets have not been scored upon in their last 135:12.
Overall Army held a 58-10 shot advantage and went 4-for-7 on the power play. It barely missed a fifth extra-man goal when Finnegan's second tally of the night came just one second after an Assumption penalty expired.
Joe Dudek had three assists for the Cadets, while T.J. McMeniman added two helpers.
Assumption's best scoring chance came late in the game when John Ilvonen's hard shot was kicked away by Hamilton. The Ice Dogs also had a third-period goal disallowed because it was batted in with a high stick.
Army closes out its first-semester slate on Tuesday against Fairfield at Tate Rink at 7 p.m. The Cadets and Stags have already met twice this season, with Army holding a 1-0-1 edge. Assumption travels to St. Anselm on Tuesday.
