Leading 1-0 on an Alex Todd goal at 5:28 of the opening period, Union (3-7) blitzed Army with a string of four second-period tallies. At 3:58 of the period Jason Kean stopped a clearing attempt along the boards at the blue line and watched his wrist shot knuckle past Corey Winer for a 2-0 lead.
Later in the second, Bryan Yackel and Clark Jones tallied 30 seconds apart, and at 10:54 of the period Doug Christiansen made it 5-0 with his first collegiate goal. Union outshot Army 31-11 through two periods and 39-22 for the game in ending the Cadets' three-game home winning streak.
Freshman Joe Dudek got Army on the board with his first collegiate goal, a hard slapshot from the right faceoff circle 3:26 into the third period.
Jeff Sproat and Drew Taylor added third-period goals for the Dutchmen, who are unbeaten in their last seven meetings with Army (6-0-1). Jason Ralph, Charles Simard and Jeff Hutchins each had two assists for Union.
Army (3-7-1) played without the services of four key forwards, including leading scorers Mike Fairman and Nic Serre.
Winer stopped 32 shots and fell to 0-6 on the season, but the Cadets have scored only six goals in his six starts.
Brandon Snee stopped all 11 shots he faced in 40 minutes of action in the Union goal, and reliever Marc Wise turned aside 10 of 11 third-period shots in his first collegiate outing.
