Buffalo, N.Y. -- The night before Halloween brought some excitement to the Marine Midland Arena as four college hockey teams came together to show off their skills in a professional arena for the Punch Imlach Showcase.

The first match pitted the St. Lawrence Saints against the Wayne State Warriors, newcomers to varsity hockey in the 1999-2000 season, and at the end, the Saints walked away with a 3-2 victory as the inexperienced Warriors put up an extremely credible effort.

After two scoreless periods, the teams combined for five goals in the third. For St. Lawrence, junior winger Alan Fyfe scored twice en route to MVP honors for the game.

Fyfe's first goal gave the Saints the lead at 4:02 of the third, assisted by Brandon Dietrich and Justin Harney. But Wayne State quickly answered, on a Jon Brink tally under a minute later.

Fyfe' second goal, at 6:02 while on the power play, put SLU ahead once again, but it took Mike Gellard scoring the third Saint goal, with assists from Dale Clarke and Robin Carruthers, to put the Saints firmly in charge.

Warrior freshman left wing Dustin Kingston, assisted by Brink and Jason Durbin, brought the lead down to one again at 17:08, but Wayne State would get no closer as the Saints closed out the win.

Warrior goaltender David Guerrera stopped 46 shots in the loss, while Jeremy Symington made 31 saves for the victorious Saints.

Wayne State goes against Western Ontario next Friday, Nov. 5, at home. The Saints begin ECAC play on the road next Friday and Saturday when they play Princeton and Yale.
