Bemidji, Minn. -- Bemidji State rallied with four unanswered goals to post a 5-2 victory over Army in the new College Hockey America conference's inaugural game, before 1,925 fans at John Glas Fieldhouse.

The Cadets started the scoring with a first-period, unassisted goal by junior Mike Fairman at 8:14, but the Beaver underclassmen took care of the scoring for Bemidji State as freshman Daryl Bat retaliated with a goal 42 seconds later to knot the game at 1-1. Freshman Marty Goulet and freshman Rico Fatticci earned assists.

Freshman Derek Hines gave the Cadets a 2-1 lead, scoring his first career goal on a feed from sophomore Joe Carpenter at the 11:54 mark of the first period.

The Beavers then notched the first of their four unanswered goals when sophomore Jake Searles directed a pass from senior Dan Pelletier, set up by hometown freshman Brad Johnson at 11:45 of the second period. Johnson then added an unassisted goal at 16:56 of the period for a 3-2 Beaver lead headed to the final stanza.

Freshman Mike Perpich and freshman Jeff McGill set up each of the last two Beaver goals, finding junior Travis Johnson at 12:08 of the third period, and junior Ted Belisle at 15:04.

Senior Adam Pavlatos stopped 18 of 20 shots for Bemidji State to record his 49th career victory; senior Corey Winer turned aside 30 of 35 for Army.

The Beavers, who picked up four points in the CHA standings with the win, battle the Cadets at 7:05 p.m. Saturday for game two of the series. Saturday's game will also be a four-point contest, as are all CHA games involving Army in this year's records.
