A day after the NCAA was under-represented in the first round of the 2008 Entry Draft, NHL teams selected far more players from the college ranks. Nine were selected in the second round of the draft, including Cody Goloubef of Wisconsin, who was selected 37th overall by the Colorado Avalanche. Two Badgers' recruits, Patrick Wiercioch and Justin Schultz, were also selected; Wierchioch by Ottawa and Schultz by Anaheim. Boston University recruit Corey Trivino was the top collegiate pick Saturday; he was chosen 36th by the New York Islanders. It was a short day Friday in Ottawa for players with U.S. college ties. One year after 11 collegians went in the Draft's first round, just four were picked on day one this time around. As expected, Boston University's Colin Wilson was the first collegian taken, going seventh overall to Nashville after the Predators traded up to land him. Just three other players with college ties — all incoming freshmen — graced Friday's wish list: Denver's Joe Colborne, Wisconsin's Jake Gardiner and Michigan State's Daultan Leveille.
